A Broken Leg

Tuesday morning Mark took the morning off to go to the zoo with us.  At the zoo there is a giraffe slide the kids love playing on.  Ila May has gone down this slide many times on her own.  But since Mark was with us she wanted to ride down with her daddy.  Half way down the slide Ila's foot caught the edge of the slide an her leg broke.  We didn't know it broke at the time.
This happened Tuesday morning.  After coming down the slide Ila was crying and Mark and I both were concerned that she might have hurt her leg pretty bad.  She wasn't screaming or acting badly hurt so we thought maybe it was just sore or a pulled muscle.  When we got home we had her rest and I thought a good day of rest would be all she needed.  But....she didn't want to walk on it and wouldn't put her foot down at all.  The odd thing was she was folding her legs and moving around just fine but the only thing she wouldn't do was stand on it.  So again I thought maybe just some rest would help.
That night Ila slept great and didn't cry at all, she rolled around in her bed like normal too....she just didn't want to walk or stand.  So in the morning when she still didn't want to walk or stand Mark and I took her to urgent care.  They took some X-rays and sure enough her leg was broken.  I was amazed how good she was about it and how normal she acted.  The doctor at urgent care said when little kids break a bone they usually don't act like what we would assume they would act like. Good to know!
Here is one of her X-rays. If you look at the lower part of her leg on the right side of the larger bone (the tibia) there is a fracture.  The other X-ray shows the fracture going across the back side of the bone (I didn't get a picture of that X-ray).  A buckle fracture is what she has and it means that half of her bone buckled and the other half was unaffected.  It will be 4 weeks in a cast.
Here is Ila waiting to get her hard cast put on.  She's wearing her brothers sweat pants....the only pants that fit over the splint she had on.
Here is her cute little leg as her cast dried.
When we arrived home Ila received flowers, balloons and a teddy bear from Mema, Mark's mom.
The splint that the urgent care put on her was very uncomfortable. Her leg and foot could move and the splint didn't stay on this wiggly 2 year old. Ila would cry from the pain if she moved the wrong way.  So we are very thankful the doctor got us in day early to get her cast put on.  Now she is pain free since the leg and foot can't move now.
I gave her a pink pedicure to match her pink cast.
Nurse Lulu has been taking care of Ila and making sure she is not bored.
Ila crawls around the house or scoots on her bottom then she can pull herself up on one leg.....here are all the kids getting bites of Marks lunch.  Ila sure didn't want to miss out on a bite of daddy's lunch.  Levi has enjoyed using the ace bandage from Ila's splint as a hat...LOL.
Lulu has been pushing Ila around in the doll stroller and again the ace bandage has come in handy to strap her in.
Ila has been a trooper and doesn't seem down at all.  Little kids are amazing and so strong. I'm sure the next 4 weeks will be easy and not too different then our normal routine.
Here is a interesting article about riding a slide with an adult.  Too bad we didn't read it sooner.

Sisters

Lulu and Ila May are 4 years apart.  They love each other so much and Ila loves to be like her big sister.   Recently I was changing out everyones clothes because all 4 kids seemed to have hit a growth spurt at the same time.  While I was doing that I came across Lulu's old night gown from when she was 2.  Along with it was a bigger one I had stashed away for Lulu when she got older.  Well it was perfect that Lulu's old one fits Ila May now and the bigger one now fits Lulu.
Here is a picture of Lulu in the same nightgown with the robe on when she was 2.

Happy 2nd Birthday Ila May!

Happy, Happy 2nd Birthday to my sweet little Ila May.  Two years have flown by.  This past month I feel like you grew up and are no longer a baby.  Boohoo! You are just fitting into 18month clothing .  So you have been such a baby to me, it's been fun.  Even though you look like a baby in many ways you do not act like one!  You can run and jump and climb and play like a two year old.  You of course understand us and can talk a bit.  Your putting 2 to 3 words together.  You have a lot to say but just don't have the words yet but you are trying very hard!  You get your thoughts across very well.  You LOVE your big sister and your big brother and now you love your baby brother!  You just love people and are very social.  Not shy at all!  Your favorite toys are baby dolls, just like your sister.  You love getting ready with me in the bathroom each morning and love running up stairs to see daddy while he's working.  We love you and thank God for you.

Zoo Boise

We went to the zoo today!  It was so fun.  This was our first visit to Zoo Boise.  It wasn't a huge zoo like the one in Seattle that we are used to but it's not small either.  I wanted to spend some time with my 3 little monkeys children before Silas arrives.  This was a perfect way to spend some fun time with them.
This Lion has such a sweet face and was so fun to watch.  Levi was a bit nervous.
 This slide was so cool!
I packed our lunch and we ate by the fake and real tigers.
The kids got to get up close to the prairie dogs.  This was really fun for them.  There were concrete tunnels they could climb through.  Being 9 months pregnant there was no way I was going in them!
Ila May loved sitting in an egg shell.  She kept saying "egg, egg, egg."
I found it funny that Levi was nervous about the Lion earlier who wasn't even close but he was totally fine with being face to face with the snow leopard.
Then the snow leopard moved a bit and he jumped back.

18 Months!

Today Ila May is 18 months old! She is the sweetest baby. Ila can say, mommy, daddy, hi, please, cheese, water, cookie, yeah, peepee, doggie, kitty cat, and a few more. She repeats really well if I tell her to say something. She's tiny and is still in 12 month clothes. Her favorite foods are rice, pasta, black beans, fruit and anything sweet.

Couch or Sofa?

What do you say, couch or sofa?  My grandparents used to say davenport. In our family we say couch.  Tonight we sold our couch.  We will be storing some things but our furniture we are either giving away or selling.  Mark and I bought this couch right after we got married and bought our first house.  We were so excited to get a real leather couch.  It was perfect for the look we were going for.  That look has changed so much over the past 7 years but this couch has been great for us through it all.  It has been the place we take pictures on, many guests have slept on it, I have taken hundreds of naps on it, even the kids nap on this couch.  So I thought I would share some pictures of our children with you as they posed for the camera on this couch.  By the way the family that bought this couch from us called it a sofa....LOL.

Ila's Walking

Ila May has been taking steps this week and has started walking.  I got a little bit on video.

This evening we made a little cake for her and Lulu was so excited to be the one to carry it out to her.
She enjoyed the frosting and after a few fists full she stuck her thumb in her mouth and was ready for bed.
Levi was so excited to have cake.
Here is a cute video of Lulu sharing her juice with Ila May today.

Happy Birthday Ila May!

Ila May you are 1 today!! You are so cute and so sweet. You have been taking a few steps on your own for a week now.  You are not timid at all and love to climb over things and hold on to things.  You are very social and not shy. You love to suck your thumb and to be held.  You can say Mama, Dada and "hi" really well.  You also say "nu-nu" for nurse when you want to nurse.  I love when you say that!  You have grown really close to Lulu in the past month.  You think she is just the best thing.  You have always loved Levi but Lulu had to grow on you and now she's your best friend it seems.  Here is your birth story.  I love you!

Butterfly & Flower Party

This weekend we celebrated Lulu's 5th and Ila's 1st birthdays with friends and family.  I picked butterfly and flowers as the theme. Ila May had flower cupcakes for her "cake."
And Lulu had a butterfly cake.  She even helped decorate it.
Mark's mom Connie was our caterer.  She made the butterfly and flower cookies along with our veggie and fruit trays and her famous Flintstone Bread Dip.
Levi had a blast!
 The Grandmas!
My dad with the kids.
The weather was great!
Everyone got a butterfly net to take home.
Here is Lulu with her friend Abigail.  They are pen pals and have been enjoying sending cards back and forth. We were so excited that Abigail and her family made it down.  They live about 2 hours from us so having them here was very special.
 Looking for butterflies!
